F.I.P.F.G. – Form In Place Foam Gasket

C.E.L. stands out for its constant attention to the increasingly high demands and expectations of our clients.
To meet these needs, C.E.L. has enhanced its production capabilities with the new FIPFG (Form In Place Foam Gasket) Sonderhoff sealing system, which applies a two-component polyurethane foam gasket directly (in situ) onto plastic and metal parts.

With this technology, C.E.L. can guarantee your components exceptional protection levels against the penetration of fluids, humidity, and dust — levels that are difficult to achieve with traditional methods — reaching up to IP67 protection standards.

Thanks to this advanced sealing system, it is possible to achieve airtight properties as an alternative to die-cut gaskets, O-rings, rubber cords, and other traditional sealing systems.

The polyurethane gasket applied using the F.I.P.F.G. system adheres perfectly to the plastic or metal substrate on which it is dispensed, thereby increasing practicality throughout all subsequent assembly or maintenance stages.

The gasket can also be applied—while maintaining perfect sealing—on parts with geometries that are difficult to achieve using traditional methods. Thanks to the versatility of the dispensing process, it is possible to create sections with varying thicknesses along the perimeter of the part by adjusting the dispensing speed during the gasket application.

An efficient watertight seal is often vital for the finished product and must possess specific characteristics such as softness, elasticity, and flexibility to adapt to geometries with often irregular profiles.

Other key features include excellent chemical resistance to numerous aggressive substances, zero water absorption, aging resistance, and UL certification.

Our Solutions and Applications

C.E.L. can offer clients solutions using thixotropic polyurethanes, ideal for surfaces without hollow perimeter geometries, or self-leveling polyurethanes, which are useful for evenly filling the depth of grooves.

For this reason, we always recommend contacting our Technical Department during the design phase of the component, so that we can jointly study the ideal geometry for optimal gasket application and ensure perfect sealing.

We are also equipped to provide initial samples and subsequently produce both small and large quantities.
This process is available both for parts manufactured in-house and for components supplied by the client on a subcontracting basis.

Application Sectors

  • Automotive: engine compartment, bodywork, cabin, air filters
  • Lighting: civil and street lighting, lamps
  • Electrical and Electronic: electrical panels and cabinets, sensors, control units
  • Household: boilers, air conditioners, washing machines, dishwashers, hobby equipment
  • Furniture: cabinets
  • Mechanical Components: pumps, gearboxes, electric motors
  • Cleaning: vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, cleaning trolleys, pressure washers

C.E.L. is also able to supply the same type of gasket on a double-sided adhesive backing. This special gasket can be applied directly by the client to their components, eliminating the need to use our system. In the attached file, you will find all the dimensions and characteristics of this specific product. We can also provide custom-shaped gaskets without adhesive, giving the client full freedom of application.

Our Technical Department is at your complete disposal to illustrate in detail the possible applications, advise you on which product best meets your sealing requirements, and work with you to design the optimal geometry for the application of the two-component polyurethane foam gasket.
